Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - After the early voting period was met with great enthusiasm in Western New York, many people are now wondering what Election Day will bring.
In Erie County, over 26% of registered voters participated in early voting, with nearly 168,000 ballots cast. If you add in Absentee Ballots, it's likely that 40% of registered voters have already cast their vote. So what does that mean for Election Day?
"The turnout is going to be so large that you're still going to have a lot of people coming out to the polls," said Erie County Democrat Elections Commissioner Jeremy Zellner. "We're looking at between 75-80% turnout. With the volume, we could have one of the highest turnouts of any election year."
Though it's late, there is still time to send in an absentee ballot if you have one in your possession.
"The important thing is that if somebody has voted by mail and mailed it in, they can check the status of their ballot online through our website," said Erie County Republican Elections Commissioner Ralph Mohr. "They aren't required to jeopardize their health by going to a site."
Absentee ballots must be postmarked by November 3rd to be counted. There is no in-person voting on Monday, voting on Election day runs from 6:00 in the morning to 9:00 tomorrow night.
