Woman and infant die in Buffalo house fire early Saturday

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A woman and an infant are dead following an early morning house fire on Norwood Avenue in the City of Buffalo Saturday.

City officials say at approximately 8:35 a.m., the Buffalo Fire Department responded to a call for “ringing alarms” at a residence located at 428 Norwood Avenue.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a working structure fire in a 2½-story multiple-unit home. The fire was located on the first floor and confined to that area.

Three individuals were removed from the home. Tragically, a 29-year-old female and an infant were pronounced deceased at the scene. A 30-year-old male was transported to ECMC with serious injuries.

Damage is estimated at $75,000 to the building and $25,000 to its contents. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Buffalo Fire Investigation Unit and Buffalo Police Department are conducting a joint investigation.
