Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A Buffalo woman that was shot by a Buffalo police officer in September of 2025 has pled guilty to first-degree attempted assault.
Cynthia Gilbert, 38, was seen on police bodycam video acting belligerent and wielding a knife outside an apartment complex on Donovan Drive in the early morning hours of Sept. 27, 2025.
Officers responded to the apartment complex at around 2 a.m. and found Gilbert shouting at a group standing in an apartment building doorway. Gilbert repeatedly refused commands to drop the knife, and eventually attacked one of the people standing in the doorway, causing an injury.
The altercation ended with Gilbert being shot by an officer.
She and the victim of the knife attack were treated at Erie County Medical Center.
Gilbert faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison when she is sentenced on Monday, April 27. She is being held without bail.
