Buffalo, NY (WBEN) A Buffalo woman pleads guilty to a traffic violation after striking a protester who was on a bicycle at Niagara Square. This happened during a protest of the Breonna Taylor case grand jury decision.
26-year-old Joanna Gollnau had initially been charged with with felony reckless endangerment and reckless driving. Tuesday, she pleaded guilty to one count of failure to exercise due care, a traffic violation.
On September 23, 2020, prosecutors say Golinau was driving a pickup truck through Niagara Square and hit a woman who was seated on a bicycle by failing to exercise due care around a pedestrian. 59-year-old Karen Huffman, was struck in Niagara Square. She suffered a fractured shoulder and wrist. She was a member of the bike group Slow Roll, and was serving as a 'Bike Marshall' for that protest.
Golinau was fined $200 and also received two points against her New York State driver's license.
