Gary Busey charged with sexual offenses at horror movie convention

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Actor Gary Busey is facing sexual offense charges following an incident at a horror movie convention in Cherry Hill, according to police.

Authorities say they responded to reports of a sex offense at last weekend's Monster-Mania Convention at the Doubletree Hotel in Cherry Hill. The 78-year-old actor was charged Friday with two counts of criminal sexual contact, one count of criminal attempt/criminal sexual contact, and a count of harassment.

Busey was a guest at the convention, which celebrates horror, fantasy and sci-fi movies and television. He has multiple genre credits, including "Predator 2" and "Stephen King's Silver Bullet," although he is best known for his Academy Award-nominated turn as Buddy Holly in 1978's "The Buddy Holly Story."

The actor has faced sexual abuse accusations in the past. In 2017, the website The Daily Beast detailed a 2011 incident alleged to have taken place on the set of the reality show "The Celebrity Apprentice."

Cherry Hill police say an investigation is underway, and urge anyone with additional information to contact Det. Robert Daniello at (856) 432-8834.
