A new poll has found that a majority of Republicans want the next Speaker of the House to be loyal to former President Donald Trump.
The poll comes from CBS News/YouGov and found that 59% of all Republicans prefer that the new top Republican in the House be loyal to the leading Republican presidential nominee.
When the poll asked those who consider themselves MAGA Republicans, the number jumped even further, going to 84%.
The poll comes after the House made history when it decided to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) last week.
Among Republican respondents, 53% supported removing McCarthy from his position, while 47% did not. Additionally, 25% said the move would be good for the country, 23% said it would be bad, and 51% said it wouldn’t change.
While many have wondered who would take over for McCarthy, former President Trump offered his endorsement for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH).
Still, loyalty to Trump isn’t the only characteristic that Republicans would like to see in the next Speaker, as the poll found that 58% of all Republicans want the next Speaker to work with Democrats.
Forty-nine percent of all Republicans wanted the next Speaker to be a part of the MAGA movement, another number that jumped among MAGA Republicans, rising to 85%.
Another point that all Republicans agreed on was that they want the next Speaker to impeach President Biden (72%), a movement that is currently underway.
The poll was conducted among 2,155 Americans between Oct. 4 to 6. There is a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points.
