The hit game show “Wheel of Fortune” has found its next host, as Ryan Seacrest is now set to take over for Pat Sajak when he retires at the end of next season, the program announced Tuesday.
“I’m truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak,” Seacrest wrote in a statement on Twitter Tuesday. “I can say, along with the rest of America, that it’s been a privilege and pure joy to watch Pat and Vanna on our television screens for an unprecedented 40 years, making us smile every night and feel right at home with them.”
Seacrest agreed to host the iconic show, signing a “multi-year agreement” starting in 2024, a press release from Sony Pictures Television said.
A household name in American television, Seacrest has been on screens and radios since the turn of the century, and now he will step into Sajak’s shoes.
“Well, the time has come,” the longtime host tweeted earlier this month. “I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months.”
Sajak, 76, took over as the host of the game show in 1981 alongside his co-host Vana White.
“Pat, I love the way you’ve always celebrated the contestants and made viewers at home feel at ease,” Seacrest added. “I look forward to learning everything I can from you during this transition.”
While “Wheel of Fortune” is a mainstay in American living rooms, Seacrest is no stranger to the small screen as he is best known for hosting another show, “American Idol.”
Seacrest left the daytime talk show “Live with Kelly and Ryan” in February after hosting the show alongside Kelly Ripa for nearly six years. He also works on a weekly syndicated radio talk show.
