Buffalo, N.Y. WBEN) - While Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown has yet to indicate if he will launch a write-in campaign in an attempt to remain in office, he is distancing himself from one of the louder voices encouraging him to do so.
Mayor Brown's campaign Sunday released a statement acknowledging support and encouragement from politically active developer Carl Paladino and stated he did not seek out Paladino's support nor will he accept it.
In the statement, Brown says, "I have received support from every community in our city and I am thankful for that trust and confidence, which has underscored my commitment to an equitable, diverse, inclusive and prosperous Buffalo."
Paladino, who has been a critic of Mayor Brown's during his tenure in office, has announced support for a write-in campaign, voicing concerns over a slowdown in the city's economic development under the leadership of Democratic primary winner India Walton.
Walton is the only candidate on the November ballot in the mayoral race and is leading Brown by 1507 votes before the absentee ballots are accounted for.
Brown has yet to concede to Walton in the primary and is expected to give some clarity to his plans this week.
Supporters of Walton have indicated they will counter any attempt by Brown to organize a write-in campaign.
