BUFFALO (WBEN) - The early voting turnout in Erie County and across the country has been impressive to this point, as more than one-fifth of registered Erie County voters have already cast a ballot prior to the November 3 election.
"People are making their voices heard, they're taking advantage of our early voting across the county, and we've only just begun," said Democratic Board of Elections Commissioner Jeremy Zellner.
As of Friday afternoon, Zellner explained that they have seen nearly 35,000 people who did not vote during the 2016 election come out and take advantage of early voting. Further, 20,000 people who haven't voted in the last four elections have also participated in the process.
However, Zellner is concerned about the speed of the post office, or lack thereof, in regard to mailing in absentee ballots, and he made some suggestions for Erie County voters.
"We're urging people, if they have an absentee ballot, to bring it to one of those sites - they don't have to wait in line - they can bring it to the sites, see the inspector and drop it in the absentee boxes, or they can drop them off at any voting site on Election Day from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday."
