What's a little rain to die hard Buffalo Sabres fans.
Even if it was a drenching rain.
Despite the nasty weather and the fact the Sabres lost 6-2 to the Washington Capitals, a handful of fans gathered early Sunday morning to greet the team and celebrate the Sabres making the playoffs for the first time since 2011 - an NHL record of 14 seasons of being on the outside of the league's Stanley Cup playoffs.
"This is our year," said a jubilant Jackson Supe from Lancaster.
Supe was not alone.
All of the fans who made their way to Signature Aviation in Cheektowaga to greet the team said they are confident the Sabres will go deep into the playoffs.'
Some compared this year's team to the Buffalo Bills, who also emerged from a 17-year playoff drought to become one of the NFL's top squads.
"The Sabres are my team," said Derby resident James Koszuta.
To Lockport's Brandon Marshall, the Sabres' playoff run is very special.
Marshall said he will be watching the games with his 10-year-old son, Liam.
"Think about this, he has never seen a Sabres playoff game," Marshall said, "And, now he will."
