NEW YORK (WBEN) - During a Wednesday afternoon press conference in Yonkers Wednesday afternoon, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that access to the vaccine will soon be easier for the older population.

"Today, we're taking an additional step where for people who are older than 60 years old, you don't even need an appointment to get a vaccine," said Cuomo. "You can just walk into any of the mass vaccination sites across the state...and they will give you the vaccine.

In Western New York, there is only one place this applies to: the Delavan Grider Community Center, 877 East Delavan Avenue in Buffalo.

"You don't have to go on the internet, you don't have to make a phone call, you don't have to do anything," he continued. "Just show up at the vaccination site if you're 60-plus, and they will give you a vaccine."

Cuomo adding that this new initiative will begin Friday, and now that every adult is eligible for the vaccine, there is simply no excuse to not get a shot.

The governor also chastised Western New York for having the highest COVID positivity rate in the state.

"Why is Western New York at 4.4% and the Capital Region, the Albany District, is at 2%?" asked Cuomo. "Why is Western New York double what the Albany area is? It's a function of the human behavior in that area."
