The wild temperature variance from north to south will dissipate Sunday across Western New York as a stalled frontal boundary eases, National Weather Service forecasters say.
This will bring an end to any freezing rain north of the front from south to north, while also allowing temperatures to climb to mid-springlike levels across much of the area south of Lake Ontario.
Periodic showers will continue through early Monday, forecasters say, with a few thunderstorms also possible later Sunday and early Monday morning as a strong cold front crosses the area. In the wake of the front, much colder but mainly dry weather will then follow for Tuesday, before the next system spreads more showers and milder temperatures back across the region Wednesday.
Back to the Big Chill
The late weekend warmup doesn't extend into the coming work week and beginning of April.
"Unfortunately we've got a cold front that's coming through on Monday," Thomas says. "For the beginning of April on Tuesday, temperatures are going to be dropping back to about 40 degrees."
Later in the week, warmer conditions are expected, but showers will also be in the mix.
A strong push of warm air will boost daytime highs into the 60s to around 70 on Thursday, otherwise expect mid 40's to mid 50's for highs the rest of the time.
