It will be a bit of a rollercoaster ride to get there, but a meaningful warmup is in view for the Western New York forecast with spring-like temperatures and a much milder trend, National Weather Service forecasters say.

Temperatures Friday will at least rise above the freezing mark to the mid 40's across the Buffalo-Niagara region, with dry conditions.

The weekend weather word will be 'changeable', with windy conditions developing overnight into Saturday. "Gusts of 35 to 40 mph, mainly after midnight tonight, through the pre-dawn hours of Saturday," National Weather Service meteorologist Jon Hitchcock tells WBEN.

Temps to start the day Saturday will be around 40, but will fall throughout the day into the 30's, with colder conditions in the 20's expected for Sunday and Monday before a more meaningful warmup.

"By Tuesday, the warmup begins," Promises Hitchcock. "Highs around 40 on Tuesday, and then well into the 40's by Wednesday and Thursday of next week."

Hitchcock says the warmup appears to be substantial, lasting into next weekend and even into the second week of March.

"We're heading into a warmer pattern, it looks like, for the next few weeks."
