Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - After a brutally cold, subzero start Monday morning with wide-ranging temperatures below zero, the cold airmass retreats to the east today.
Temperatures are expected to rise into the 20's across Western New York, and it gets even 'warmer' Tuesday, National Weather Service forecasters say.
"It's going to be a slow warmup today," NWS meteorologist Heather Kenyon tells WBEN. "We have highs in the low 20's," she adds.
The good news is that temperatures will climbs some through the week.
"We're actually anticipating temperatures above freezing on Tuesday, by Tuesday afternoon, and we haven't seen above freezing temperatures in about 3 weeks here."
Some light snow or wintry mix may accompany the milder temps Tuesday into Wednesday, Kenyon cautions.
While temperatures will be above freezing Tuesday, the remainder of the week will drop below freezing, however not to the extremes we've been experiencing, with highs in the mid to upper 20's.
"It does look like there's going to be a pattern change come next week, where we're going to see above normal temperatures," Kenyon teases. "We don't anticipate temperatures as cold as they were this weekend anytime soon."
