Buffalo, WNY on the threshold of a system bringing severe weather to the east

Rain-free time Sunday with a chance for showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo and Western New York are on the threshold of a frontal system that will bring potentially severe weather and some flooding rainfall to the east.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Buffalo say Sunday won't be a washout by any stretch, with rain-free time between any showers and thunderstorms. "Storms that do develop may produce locally heavy rain and flooding, with isolated strong to severe wind gusts. The greatest risk for this will be between noon to 8 p.m. today."

The wet weather will be short-lived say NWS forecasters. "The main focus for showers and storms will shift mainly east of our region on Monday."

Conditions will clear from west to east beginning Monday and into Tuesday before another period of unsettled weather moves in midweek through the end of the work week.
