The biggest weather worry for the Buffalo-Niagara region this Christmas week isn't much of a worry to begin with.

Light snow will persist for a period Tuesday, before changing over to rain, and making way for dry conditions for both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, National Weather Service forecasters say.

"We're expecting this current batch of accumulating snow is going to persist through much of the morning," NWS meteorologist Phillip Pandolfo tells WBEN. "Though we are expecting a changeover to rain and eventually taper off as we go through the morning hours."

Only an inch or two, possibly three, is expected from the fresh snow.

For those hopeful that the light blanket of snow will stick around and create a picturesque white Christmas backdrop, not so fast.

"The combination of the rain and the warming temperatures will cause much of the snow accumulation we see today to melt completely," Pandolfo says. "Should be washed away by the mid to late morning, almost entirely."

As Christmas week unfolds, much more uneventful weather will greet the upcoming holiday.

Mainly dry weather will then return for Wednesday through Christmas Day with no travel impacts expected.

High temperatures through Thursday will be above the freezing mark, with colder air for the post-Christmas period.
