Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A noticeable increase in heat and humidity is paying the Buffalo and Western New York region a return visit following the Independence Day celebrations.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service say the increase in heat will be followed by the threat of increased showers, saying, "Very warm and notably more humid weather will move into the area for the beginning of the week."

"After cool weather in recent days, temperatures will soar across the eastern third of the country," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist David Samuhel said.

Temperatures and humidity will be higher along the interior portions of Western New York in the Genesee Valley and Finger Lakes region where forecasters say conditions will be 'borderline heat advisory'.

Following a frontal change late Monday, the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms will increase across the region through Thursday, forecasters say.

"There is a Marginal Risk of severe thunderstorms to our east, but at least some gusty winds will be possible with any of the storms," National Weather Service forecasters say.
