Say goodbye to snow as temperatures moderate, unseasonable warmth returns

"By Wednesday and Thursday, we'll be right back up into the lower 60s"

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Sunday snow will begin to melt away Monday with increasing temperatures and some gusty winds, and a warmup will again be in the work week forecast for the Buffalo-Niagara region.

As promised, the snow added up Sunday and was just enough to remind us that Mother Nature remains in charge of when spring actually arrives. "We had a couple inches around the Buffalo metro area," National Weather Service meteorologist Dave Thomas tells WBEN. "As you go further southward across the Boston Hills and the southern tier, we've had reports of a half a foot."

Another work week warmup is in store, Thomas tells us, with sunshine on the increase. "It will be around 40 degrees here today, and then by Wednesday and Thursday, we'll be right back up into the lower 60s."

The accumulated snow will be stubborn to melt away Monday, but across much of the region it should disappear as the temps hit the 50s beginning Tuesday.

Winds will be a factor Monday as well. "We do have a Wind Advisory for Niagara and Orleans counties," Thomas tells WBEN. "Some gusty northwest winds will continue through the afternoon hours."

Bottom line? After a transition day Monday, unseasonable warmth returns for the remainder of the week.

WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 2 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON
* WHAT...Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
* WHERE...Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Wayne, Livingston, Ontario, and Allegany Counties.
* WHEN...Until 2 PM EDT this afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
