Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Gusty winds will continue for much of the day Sunday, with colder temperatures overtaking the region, along with a round of lake effect snow that will mainly add-up to minor accumulations.
A Wind Advisory remains posted for most of WNY, including the Buffalo metro area, through early Sunday afternoon.
A Winter Weather Advisory is now posted for southern Erie County and the southern tier through early Monday.
"We're looking for winds gusting up to 45 to 50 mph," National Weather Service meteorologist Dave Thomas tells WBEN. "Remaining breezy right through the afternoon hours"
The change to be concerned with is with the colder temperatures greeting us, and with the winds blowing across a mainly wide open Lake Erie, the potential for some lake effect snow.
After initially setting up in a band across the metro Buffalo area, snow will then target the more typical areas prone to lake effect snow.
"The lake snows will drop southward....becoming focused on the Boston Hills and western southern tier," Thomas says. Not much in the way of any significant accumulation is expected for the Buffalo area, possibly up to an inch. "Once you get into the hills south, you're looking at 3 and 6 inches of snow by later tonight."
To kickoff the work week, temperatures will remain seasonable, in the lower 30's, with additional light snow in the forecast.
