Snow to overspread WNY Friday into Saturday

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - It will look and feel a lot more wintry across all of Western New York Friday and early Saturday.

Winter Weather Advisories are posted for most of Western New York Friday and early Saturday, including for the Buffalo metro area. A Winter Storm Warning is posted for Chautauqua County.

"Expect moderate accumulations across most of the region, with the greatest amounts across the higher terrain of the Southern Tier," say the forecasters at the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

Snow will accumulate across much of the region, with forecasters saying, "Expect 4-7" across much of the Southern Tier, Southern Erie and Wyoming counties, with 3-6" from the Niagara Frontier east across the Genesee Valley and western Finger Lakes."

For Saturday, forecasters say, "The widespread snow will taper off late tonight, with lingering lake effect snow showers south of Lake Ontario and Lake Erie through Saturday morning. Mainly dry weather will return later Saturday and last through most of Sunday."

* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
* WHERE...Niagara, Orleans, Northern Erie, and Genesee counties.
* WHEN...From 11 AM this morning to 7 AM EST Saturday.
* IMPACTS...Plan on snow covered and slippery road conditions with poor visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Friday evening commute with road conditions quickly deteriorating around sunset.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Periods of snow will result in snow covered roads and limited visibilities. Slow down and use caution while driving.

* WHERE...Wyoming, Cattaraugus, Allegany, and Southern Erie counties.
* WHEN...From 9 AM this morning to 7 AM EST Saturday.
* IMPACTS...Plan on snow covered and slippery road conditions with poor visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Friday evening commute.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Periods of snow will result in snow covered roads and limited visibilities. Slow down and use caution while driving.

WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM THIS MORNING TO 7 AM EST SATURDAY
* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 11 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
* WHERE...Chautauqua county. The greatest accumulations will be along the Chautauqua Ridge.
* WHEN...From 9 AM this morning to 7 AM EST Saturday.
* IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult with snow covered roads and poor visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Friday evening commute.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Widespread accumulating snow will create dangerous travel conditions.
