INWOOD, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- A Manhattan woman attacked a cop and resisted arrest during a traffic stop on Long Island early Tuesday, Nassau County police said.

The altercation started when patrolling officers pulled over a black Honda Accord on Sheridan Boulevard, near Bayview Avenue, in the hamlet of Inwood around 1 a.m.

The Honda had tinted windows, no front license plate and a defective headlight, according to police.

A 36-year-old man behind the wheel refused multiple orders from the officers and was physically resistant during the stop, police said.

After the man was arrested, his passenger, Annessa Knight, became “verbally aggressive” with the officers and also “ignored multiple orders,” according to police.

When officers tried to arrest Knight, 27, she resisted and was “violent and combative,” police said.

One officer was injured during the arrest and was taken to an area hospital for an evaluation.

Knight initially refused medical attention at the scene but later requested an ambulance while at a police station. She was taken to a hospital for an evaluation.

Knight was charged with assault, resisting arrest, criminal contempt, criminal mischief and obstructing governmental administration. Police said she'll be arraigned when medically practical.

Police didn't immediately identify the driver or say what charges he may face.
