NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Eric Adams was named the official Democratic nominee for New York City mayor after the city’s Board of Elections certified the results of the Primary Election on Tuesday.
The Brooklyn Borough President beat former Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia in the city’s first ranked-choice voting election by just over 7,000 votes.
Garcia and candidate Maya Wiley had already conceded the race to Adams earlier this month.
Adams is now the heavy favorite to win the general election in November, which would make him just the second Black mayor in the city's history.
He is set to face Republican Curtis Sliwa on Nov. 2.
The BOE also certified Brad Lander as the victor in the race for New York City Comptroller. He beat New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson by about 25,000 votes.
Not all races have been certified however, as a manual recount is required for at least two City Council races.
