NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Citi Bike users will soon see a price hike when renting one of New York City’s blue bikes.

On Jan. 28, an annual membership to Citi Bike will cost $185 (plus tax), which is about a 3% increase from the current $179.
The hike was quietly announced on the bike share’s website and first reported on by the New York Post.
In addition to the membership cost hike, extra time frees for rides that exceed 45 minutes will be increased to 15 cents per minute. E-bike fees will also increase to the same cost, up from 12 cents currently.
However, trips starting or ended outside of Manhattan will remain capped at just $3.
Casual users of the bike share program will soon see that a single ride will cost $3.99 – instead of the usual $3.50 – and renting a e-bike will also cost more per minute.
Citi Bike spokesman Jordan Levine told the Post that the increase in cost is due to “inflation caused by increased supply chain costs.”
According to Citi Bike’s website, there are over 25,000 bikes and more than 1,500 stations across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx.
The bike share program – which is owned by Lyft – also has plans to continue expanding to more than 40,000 bikes in New York City by the end of 2023.
Citi Bike, on its website, noted that there will be no change in the annual membership price for those who access the bikes through Lyft Pink.
