NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Harlem Week kicks off its 10-day run Thursday, with special nods to the 50th anniversary of hip-hop and to late music legends Tina Turner, Tony Bennett, Miriam Makeba, Tito Puente and Harry Belafonte.

This year's theme of Harlem Week is "Be the Change. Hope. Joy. Love."

“What we’re saying to everyone is no matter who you are, no matter what race you are, no matter what background you come from, you can be the change,” Lloyd Williams, CEO of the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce told 1010 WINS' Sharon Barnes-Waters.

Ray Chew and The Harlem Music Festival All-Star Band will pay tribute to Turner during “A Great Day in Harlem” event from noon to 7 p.m. at the Ulysses S. Grant National Memorial on Aug. 13.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Nona Hendryx and R&B singer Valerie Simpson are also set to perform.

Turner, who died on May 24, had previously been a part of Harlem Week.

The “Summer in the City” event from 1-6 p.m. on Aug. 19 will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop, featuring artists such as Run DMC, Doug E. Fresh, Kool DJ Red Alert and Grammy Award-winning singer Stephanie Mills, according to Loyd Williams, CEO of the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce.

Belafonte, who was born in Harlem, will be remembered during the “Harlem Day” event from 1-7 p.m. on Aug. 20 along West 135th Street. Performances from Broadway shows, including “MJ: The Musical,”  “The Lion King,” “Some Like It Hot,” “Hadestown” and more, are set to take place on this day, Williams said. Rapper Fabolous will also make a special guest appearance during an Apollo Hour.
