Rikers inmate who escaped police custody at Manhattan hospital recaptured

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A Rikers Island inmate that escaped from police custody while at a Manhattan hospital late last month was captured and rearrested on Tuesday, according to the NYPD.

Mossetty, 35, was caught at about 1:45 p.m. and was charged with escaping jail/custody, officials said.

He was captured in Hell's Kitchen at the subway station near West 50th Street and Eighth Avenue, PIX11 reported.

Police launched a manhunt after Mossetty escaped from NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue at approximately 9:40 p.m. on June 26. He had been brought there on June 5 for a medical issue and was being prepared for transport back to Rikers Island when he escaped authorites said.

Mossetty was arrested on Jan. 6, for assault, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and theft of services.
