ALBANY (WCBS 880) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday announced that indoor entertainment venues, overnight camps and outdoor amusement parks can reopen in New York State at reduced capacity over the next coming weeks.
Indoor family entertainment centers were given the okay to reopen at 25% capacity on March 26. Precautions such as mandatory face coverings, social distancing and temperature checks must be in place for the venues to reopen. They must also adhere to frequent cleaning and disinfection of surfaces.
Any attraction that cannot maintain proper social distancing must remain closed, according to the governor.
Meanwhile, outdoor amusement parks in the state will be allowed to reopen with 33% capacity on April 9, with the same precautions as indoor entertainment centers. Additionally, tickets to the parks must be sold in advance and entry and exit times must be staggered.
Gov. Cuomo also announced that the state now has a plan for overnight summer camps to reopen at some point in June with testing protocols.
There are no set reopening guidelines as of yet, but the governor hopes the Department of Health will have a set plan before the summer.
“As of now, overnight summer camps in New York can plan on reopening. That doesn’t happen until June, and we hope the current trajectory stays until June,” Cuomo said.
The reopening news came during the same virtual press conference in which the governor also announced that New York will open yet another mass vaccination since on March 3 in Yonkers.
The state was already in the process of setting up two sites in Queens and Brooklyn which will be able to administer approximately 3,000 vaccines per day.
The Yonkers site will be at the National Guard recruiting center and will be staffed by National Guard personnel.
That site will have the capacity to do 1,000 vaccinations per day, Gov. Cuomo said.
