NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating after a bicyclist was fatally struck and dragged in a hit-and-run collision with a tractor trailer truck Thursday in Queens.
At approximately 11:35 a.m., police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision on the southbound Van Wyck Expressway Road at Liberty Avenue in Jamaica, officials said.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 2014 Kenworth T8 Series tractor with a 2033 Heil Tanker trailer was being driven by a 48-year-old man southbound on Liberty Avenue.
As the tractor made a southbound left hand turn onto the Van Wyck Expressway Service Road, it struck a 43-year-old bicyclist travelling eastbound on Liberty Avenue.
As a result of the collision, the woman was ejected from her bicycle, becoming trapped on the undercarriage of the tractor trailer and was dragged several feet as the tractor continued travelling southbound on the Van Wyck Expressway Service Road.
EMS pronounced the bicyclist dead on scene.
The tractor trailer driver did not remain on scene.
The identification of the deceased is pending family notification.
