NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Unvaccinated officers with the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau reportedly could face demotion if they don’t get vaccinated.

At least 10 officers and detectives in the unit were told by their deputy commissioner that they could end up at a precinct in part because they can’t set up restaurant stings without proof of vaccination, according to the New York Post.
Enforcement of vaccination status in most indoor city venues began earlier this month, including restaurants and gyms.
Deputy Commissioner of Internal Affairs Joseph Reznick has also allegedly threatened administrative transfers for not getting the vaccine, which sources told the Post “kills their careers because they are known as a rat.”
The NYPD doesn’t have a vaccine mandate, but Commissioner Dermot Shea has shown support for one.
Shea said on NY1 Tuesday that the police force’s vaccination rate is just 64%, up 3% from last week.
The jump is possibly in part to school safety agents who fall under the Department of Education’s vaccine mandate, which was delayed a few days to requiring employees get the shot by the end of this week.
Eight unvaccinated members of the NYPD were in serious condition after contracting the virus last week, Shea said last week.
