NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A motorist backed into an Upper West Side Trader Joe's on Thursday afternoon, hitting a pedestrian on the way in, police said.

According to authorities, the driver of the vehicle slammed into the store at 670 Columbus Avenue as it reversed, hitting nearby scaffolding and a person in the process.
The New York Post reports the 75-year-old driver remained at the scene after she lost control of the car and struck the 69-year-old woman on the sidewalk.
The victim was reportedly taken to St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital. Cops said the victim is in stable condition.
Dasa Obereigner told Patch that her 21-year-old daughter leapt out of the way as the car jumped the curb and smashed into the store's front door.
"She was in shock," Obereigner said of her daughter, whom she declined to name. "Her bike helmet was crushed."
Obereigner said her daughter, a Barnard student, was hurt in the crash, but she grabbed her backpack, which had become wedged in the car's back bumper, and went to help the injured woman, who was "laying on the ground screaming."
Obereigner told Patch that medics "let her go without examining her," but they later went to an urgent care as the pain intensified.
The Post reports the driver was not immediately charged.
