Eagan police fatally shot a 23-year-old man Tuesday night after a standoff.
The man's been identified as Isak Abdirahman Aden of Columbia Heights. The Ramsey County Medical Examiners says died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Police say the incident started around 6 pm, when officers were called to the scene of a domestic assault involving a firearm off Highway 13 in Eagan. When officers arrived, the Aden took off and ended up in a standoff with police at the 1900 block of Seneca Road in the industrial area by a dance studio, authorities said.
Police negotiated with the him for several hours, but at some point, officers fired their weapons, killing the man, according to police.
Eagan police chief Roger New said police body cams and squad car cameras may have captured some of the incident. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has taken over the case, as is standard procedure for all shootings involving police in Minnesota.
“We train our officers to access situations and they have to make a decision based off the facts that they're dealt,” New said.
Several officers involved in the incident will be put on standard administrative leave while the investigation is conducted.
