A word of caution from the DNR if some lake walking or ice fishing is in your plan this unusually-warm weekend.....
"We have a little bit of questionable ice underneath topped by snow in some areas and rain. It's really going to be variable from lake to lake, and you can even find different ice conditions a few feet away from where you are," warns DNR's Recreational Safety Outreach Coordinator Lisa Dugan.
Dugan says a few simple items could be life-savers just in case things get dicey.
"A couple easy pieces of equipment are ice picks that can help you get out of the ice should you fall through. And, putting on a life jacket or a float coat as long as you're not in an enclosed vehicle. Just those couple of things could get you out of a really scary situation and hopefully back to safety should something bad happen," said Dugan.
Dugan says anyone out on local lakes should watch for thin ice warning signs that may be posted by local sheriff's departments.
