Minneapolis police say they've opened a death investigation following the discovery of a body inside a home on Wednesday night.

Police were called to the home on the 3900 block of Lyndale Avenue North at around 11:10 p.m. after family members went to check on a male subject who they had not heard from.

"We're waiting for the medical examiner to give us the nature and cause of death," said Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder. "At this point it's a death investigation and not a homicide investigation."

While it may be a day or two before investigators learn more, the scene is being treated the same as it would be for a homicide.

"We always treat it as the worst case scenario," Elder said. "We only have one opportunity to get the evidence and access to the scene without a warrant."

Elder says there was a homicide was reported in the 3800 block of Lyndale Avenue North in early September and it appears the incidents are not related. He added that it's not an area that sees a lot of police calls.

Anybody with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers. The man's name hasn't been released.

Note: This is a developing story and will be upated as more informationg becomes available.
