A murder charge is filed against the man accused of killing a 21-year-old Apple Valley man in downtown Minneapolis last weekend.
Varnell Allen, 23, is charged with second-degree murder for allegedly shooting Enzo Herrera Garcia at 8th Street and Hennepin Avenue Saturday night.
According to the criminal complaint, two videos and the account of the victim's girlfriend showed a car driven by Allen pulling up next to the couple and the people inside yelling out the window. Herrera Garcia yelled something back.
Then Garcia got out of the car and the men started fighting, per a release from the Hennepin County Attorney's Office. Allen allegedly pistol whipped the victim, then fired a shot into his chest. A witness recorded the license plate number which led them to an address in the 4500 block of Aldrich Avenue South in Minneapolis. Allen got into the car and was arrested a few blocks away.
Allen is set to make his first court appearance tomorrow. Prosecutors will seek bail set at $1 million.
