A missing 6-year-old boy is safe following a search that lasted nearly 10 hours Tuesday evening into early Wednesday morning.

The Sherburne County Sheriff's Office reports that the boy, identified as Ethan, was found just before 2 a.m. Wednesday a mile and a half from his family's home.

Ethan had last been seen around 4:10 p.m. Tuesday getting off the school bus with his siblings and running to play with the family's dog.

More than 600 volunteers swarmed the area and police asked people to stay away from the search area due to traffic concerns taking away from the search.

A volunteer using a drone was able to locate Ethan through thermal imaging. Sherburne County Sheriff, Joel Brott, says they had to keep looking.

"We kept watching the temperature dropping throughout the evening," Brott said. "As long as we had enough volunteers we were going to keep pushing through the evening because we knew weather was going to be a concern."

Ethan was found with the family dog.
