Brothers charged with murder with intent after man's body found in Woodbury

Preston Sharlow, Skylar Labarge
Hennepin County Sheriff's Office

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office filed Monday two counts of 2nd-degree murder with intent charges in the death of William Albrecht, the 29-year-old Minneapolis man who was reported missing Nov. 16.

His body was found in a remote Woodbury location. Brothers Skylar Labarge, 26, of Minneapolis, and Preston Sharlow, 32, of Bloomington, are accused of brutally beating Albrecht. Sharlow took investigators to the location of the body, according to court documents.

According to the criminal complaint, the men used a 31-year-old Bloomington woman's cellphone to "lure" Albrecht to her address in the 1500 block of 87th Street East Nov. 15. County Attorney Mike Freeman says the motive involves "emotional relationships."

"It was pretty clear that...the reason that the victim was killed was because (Albrecht) was involved with (the woman) at the same time, or that Sharlow had been in the past," he said.

The woman is not being charged. Freeman said she fled the home with her child. According to the complaint, Labarge attempted to cut Albrecht’s neck with a piece of glass and then stepped on Albrecht’s neck, blocking his air supply. A search warrant at the Bloomington home revealed "bloodlike substances in the garage and parts of the house. A strong smell of cleaning agents in the home was also reported by police," according to the complaint.

Albrecht is survived by 2-and-a-half-year-old twins. His body "showed signs of blunt force injury to the face and head," according to a County Attorney Office news release and the autopsy report is pending.
