As curfew took effect Monday, St. Paul protests ended with arrests for crufew violation, as a while a vigil at 38th Ave and Chicago remained a peaceful space.
Despite a cities-wide curfew, protesters remain gathered at the intersection, the location of George Floyd’s death. Earlier in the evening folks were invited to share their thoughts and emotions into the mic, as others made food and offered comfort.
The gathered crowd, numbering in the hundreds, is largely quiet and seated out of respect for George Floyd. Reports have circulated on social media of law enforcement and National Guard vehicles passing near the intersection, but police have not yet engaged.
The crowd is reportedly a little jumpier after seeing law enforcement pass by, but they remain quiet and seated.
Before the National Guard and MPD show up in full force in just a few minutes, here’s what the scene looks like at 38th and Chicago. There are children and vulnerable adults here. They gas us, they gas them. pic.twitter.com/EWyWhzqbXo

— Tucker ♥️s Minneapolis (@tucker_moore) June 2, 2020Shortly after curfew began at 10 p.m., a small group of about 40 peaceful protesters remained seated on the lawn outside the state capitol building in St. Paul. The group walked from the governor’s residence to the capitol building, where they were eventually surrounded by law enforcement and arrested. The protesters remained peaceful, and no struggle was reported in the arrests.
Another look at this peaceful standoff between #GeorgeFloydProtests demonstrators & St. Paul police. Officers descended on the Capitol grounds right at 10pm as curfew began. No verbal arrest commands at this point. The medic team appears to be in custody. @FOX9 live at scene. pic.twitter.com/vTmsLTPAlk
