A bad sports weekend for Minnesota after a big loss for the Vikings Thursday, a Wolves loss Friday night in LA, the Gophers getting blasted in Iowa City, and a slow start for the Wild. It just got worse.
Timberwolves star guard Anthony Edwards will now miss about two weeks according to a report from ESPN's Shams Charania.
"An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) taken at Mayo Clinic by Dr. Aaron Krych and Dr. Jeff Payne at Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine on Edwards revealed a right hamstring strain. Edwards will be re-evaluated in one week, and further updates of his progress will be provided when available," according to the official press release from the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Edwards departed Sunday's game against Indiana with tightness in his right hamstring, and the team quickly announced he would not return. Finch provided no update on his condition afterward. Edwards, the three-time All-Star who has just begun his sixth season, has played in 426 of a possible 445 games, including the playoffs, in his career.
Hamstrings are notoriously difficult injuries to get healthy. It appears that the Wolves are going to give him at least two weeks to get back to full-speed early in the season.
It's a tough break for the Wolves with rival Denver and Nikola Jokic in Minneapolis for a big game on Monday night. The Wolves host the LA Lakers - without Luka Doncic or LeBron James who are injured - on Wednesday.
