2 dead after small airplane crash in Bay City

Two people are dead after a plane crashed near Red Wing Regional Airport in Bay City, Wis., Tuesday afternoon.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirming a single-engine Glasair Super II crashed around 1:30 p.m. with two people on board.


According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, the plane took off around 12:20 p.m. at the Rochester International Airportfor a training flight. The plane was scheduled to land at the Red Wing Regional Airport, which is located across the river from the City of Red Wing.

It is still unknown what led up to the crash and caused the pilot to lose control. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.

ABC 6 News in Rochester reportedly spoke to the man that the plane is registered to, who confirmed he was not on board. He said he knows the two individuals killed but declined to comment further.
