The bodies of three Oakdale relatives missing since Monday have been recovered from the Mississippi River near Red Wing, authorities shared on Wednesday morning.
The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office says that three people were swimming near a family gathering on Diamond Island when they started to struggle in an area where the river drops off.
A man who had been fishing on the shore went in to help and was able to rescue an adult female, who the sheriff’s office has confirmed was his daughter.
He went back into the water to rescue the other two swimmers, but the three never resurfaced.
Goodhue County Chief Deputy Jonathan Huhuneke shared his condolences for the family of those lost.
“Can’t imagine what they’re going through to lose three family members like that,” Huhuneke said.
Huhuneke says none were experienced swimmers and did not have life vests on. Their names have not yet been released.
