It will impact downtown and state capitol workers, Wild fans, and college students.

MNDot spokesman Kevin Walker says other safety and cosmetic changes will be made as well, including sidewalk and bike lane improvements.

The project will require periodic freeway closures on Interstate 94. Detours will be posted and Walker says businesses, colleges and state capitol workers in the area were informed of the project several months ago.

"The bridge structure itself is still structurally sound, however, it's coming up on its lifetime. So after the marathon is over on the 5th on October 6th, we will be out there and we're gonna be closing the stretch between Kellogg's Boulevard and Rice Street there, and we'll be dismantling the bridge."

Walker says detours will be posted and the project will require periodic closures of I-94.
