After two weeks of postponement due to frigid temperatures, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will indeed be closing a section of Interstate 94 in St. Paul this weekend.
The freeway will be closed in both directions between Highway 61 on the east side of town, and Highway 52 on the west side of town.
The closure starts at 10:00 p.m. Friday, with all roads reopening at 5:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Beginning at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, there will be single lane closures in both directions of the interstate.
Closing off the interstate allows crews to setting beams for the new Kellogg Blvd/3rd Street bridge between the History Center and State Capitol.
The suggested detour from MnDOT will be to follow I-35E and I-694 around the city.
The project is expected to be complete in the fall of 2027. It was delayed two separate times due to weather concerns.
