An apparent explosion Thursday morning has all but leveled a home in South St. Paul.

South Metro Fire Crews were called to the 1200 block of 9th Avenue South, that's near Dale Street just after 6:00 Thursday morning. Its there they found the house fully engulfed in flames. A woman lives nearby and spoke with WCCO television on what she saw and felt.

"I was up in my office working this morning and basically I heard a big loud boom and it shook my house," she said. "And so I came running down because I thought a vehicle or something. or something fell on the sky and hit the house or something.  I came down and outside, ran around and we heard another loud, huge boom which then started the whole house on fire."

Neighbors say there may have been as many as three people inside at the time of the blast, but so far authorities have confirmed that one person is dead.

The fire is now out but the house was totally leveled but for a few exterior walls still standing.

Investigators remain on the scene in the neighborhood.
