The Metro Blue Line has been in service for more than 20 years. That means maintenance.
From September 22 through October 4 service will be stopped for that work according to Metro Transit.
"Buses will be replacing Blue Line trains along the full length of the corridor all the way from the Mall of America to Target field stations so that we can replace sections of damaged track and other equipment that is reached the end of its useful life," Metro Transit's Drew Kerr says. "When we do these big projects, we also try to do any of the cleaning and repair work at station platforms that is harder to do when we have people on them."
Green Line riders will also be directed to replacement buses between the U.S. Bank Stadium and Target Field stations during this time.
Kerr says passengers should give themselves a little extra time for this change.
"The frequency of the service is actually better than a train, and every 8 to 15 minutes we have buses scheduled," says Kerr. "That said, it is going to take more time. People should be planning for that. The train can go on a track that doesn't have traffic, it doesn't take a left or a right. Replacement buses, they need to go around. In some areas it's going to take twice as long."
