WCCO has just learned that Wednesday morning's double murder-suicide in Hopkins is related to a fatal stabbing a few hours later in Burnsville.
A man killed a woman and their child at a home daycare they own in Minnesota before taking his life. All involved remain unidentified.
Then, around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, Burnsville police responded to a report of a stabbing at a home. Late Wednesday afternoon, Burnsville Police confirmed that the two homicides are related.
The Burnsville homicide took place inside a residence near Maple Island Road and Maple Island Court. Police say a 911 caller said they found a female family member inside, with visible stab wounds and who was believed to be deceased.
"This is an active and ongoing investigation," reads a statement from Burnsville Police. "We recognize that an incident of this nature is deeply concerning and difficult for our community. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the victim, as well as everyone impacted by these tragic events."
Both departments say there is no threat to the public, and both appear to be isolated incidents.
The chief of both Hopkins and Burnsville are currently updating reporters with the latest.
Earlier Wednesday, Hopkins Police Chief Brent Johnson telling reporters that a man and a woman and their young child are dead following the incident at Brown Bear Daycare. Investigators say six other very young children were in the home at the time.
"There's no worse scenario than this, where you drop off your child to somewhere you think is safe, and you get that phone call," says Johnson. "I think we can all relate who have children and those who don't, that this is just a tragic situation anywhere in the world."
