Minnesota's fiscal health appears to have weathered the storm during the pandemic.
The new state revenue forecast shows a budget surplus of one-point-six billion dollars.
That's slightly higher than the surplus Minnesota reported a year ago, just before the coronavirus pandemic hit.
The state's budget surplus reported in Febuary 2020 was $1.5 billion.
In the first months of the health crisis, the state's surplus was wiped out... and then some.
Last May, the state reported a budget deficit of $2.4 billion.
But the economy rebounded to show a $ 640 million surplus in November.
Friday's rosy forecast comes after the state reported tax collections that exceeded predictions for three straight months, with January's revenue intake $300 million more than expected.
The Minnesota department of budget management also credited lower state spending and an increased surplus in the current fiscal years.
