A 39-year old Chisago County man has been charged with criminal vehicular operation after a head on crash over the weekend critically injures a 6-year old girl.

Court documents show that 39-year old Joseph David Campbell and a passenger left a Kwik Trip on Stacy Trail and Falcon Avenue Saturday morning in Stacy, Minnesota at a high rate of speed, fish-tailed and hit another vehicle.

Campbell initially told deputies and others that his female passenger was driving the vehicle, but that turned out not to be the case.

Deputies noted that Campbell smelled of alcohol.

One of the passengers in the other vehicle, a 6-year old, was air lifted to Gillette Children's Hospital where she is intubated and in intensive care with bleeding on the brain.

Campbell made his first court appearance Tuesday and bail was set at $350,000.
