The Dakota County Attorney's office is now considering charges in the Myon Burrell case due to a potential conflict of interest with the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.

The potential conflict of interest involves work Burrell did on Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarity's 2022 election campaign.

Burrell was arrested earlier this week for driving erratically and on suspicion he had a loaded gun and illegal drugs with him.

A spokeswoman in the Dakota County Attorney's Office tells WCCO Radio that a charging decision is expected "sometime Friday".

The sentence for Burrell was commuted early. He was convicted after a stray bullet hit 11-year old Tyesha Edwards as she was doing her homework in her north Minneapolis home in 2002.

The 16-year old Burrell was convicted in Edwards killing and sentenced to life in prison. The then 34-year old Burrell's sentence was commuted to 20 years, with the remaining time to be served under supervised release. He was released from prison in 2020 and the two years under supervision were up in December of 2022.

Burrell maintained he was innocent of the killing of 11-year old Tyesha Edwards.
