Hundreds showed up at Signature Airlines speaking out against ICE Deportation Flights including local union leaders.
They are responding to news that federal agents are going to start targeting Somali immigrants living in the country illegally and to try to stop what they call illegal deportation flights.
Greg Namacher, SEIU Local 26 President, helped lead the protest at Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport against Signature Airlines, claiming the company is contracted by ICE.
"Our understanding is that they are contracted by ICE and the federal government to take detainees to facilities around the country," says Namacher
"once they are detained here in the Twin Cities."
Geof Paquette, Lead Internal Organizer with United Local 17 He says immigrants make up a large portion of their union.
"They do the work that makes these airline companies billions of dollars in profit each and every year."
Protesters say that Signature Airlines is profiting off deportations and they are demanding that the Metropolitan Airports Commission part ways with the company to stop the use of tax dollars for these operations.
This comes a day after leaders in the Twin Cities announced that up to 100 federal agents had been sent to the metro area by the Trump Administration, targeting undocumented residents, specifically in Minnesota's large Somali community.
