The jury in the Derrick Thompson has reached a verdict. They have found Thompson on all charges including of 3rd-degree murder, which is the most serious of the charges.

Thompson was charged with five counts of third degree murder and 10 counts of criminal vehicular manslaughter in a June 2023 crash that killed five young Somali women.

In his rented Cadillac Escalade, Thompson was seen on video speeding through a red light on Lake Street and slamming into their car.

Investigators say he was going 100 miles per hour at the time of the crash.

In a major twist during the trial this week, the defense had originally employed a strategy that would indicate Thompson's brother Damarco was actually the one driving. However, Demarco Thompson ended up taking a deal in return for his testimony where he said he was not the driver - and Derrick Thompson was.

Thompson has already been found guilty on federal charges related to guns and drugs found inside his SUV.
