A Winona County grand jury has returned a first-degree murder indictment against Adam Fravel, the ex-boyfriend of Madeline Kingsbury, who was found dead in June.

After more than two months of searching, Kingsbury's body was found in a culvert near Mabel, Minnesota where Fravel's family lives. Her body was wrapped in a bedsheet and duct taped, according to a search warrant.

Investigators alleged Fravel had been physically abusing Kingsbury and that she had told family and friends about it, warning them that if something terrible happened to her, Fravel would be the one responsible.

Fravel has already been charged with two counts of second-degree murder. In Minnesota, a first-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory life sentence.

Fravel makes his first court appearance on the first-degree murder indictment tomorrow morning in Winona County District Court.

After 69 days of searching, Winona Police Chief Tom Williams confirmed in June that the remains of 26-year-old Madeline Kingsbury were found in Fillmore County near the town of Mabel.

Fravel is the father of Kingsbury’s two children and was arrested that day without incident. Authorities estimate Kingsbury was killed on or about March 31, 2023.
